Our First Chef Table will pay culinary tribute to our Chef Culture… Gullah Geechee from the Low Country – St. Helena Is, South Carolina.
Shrimp and grits originated as a humble breakfast dish for fishermen in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina and Georgia,, with deep roots in Gullah Geechee and African-American culinary traditions, potentially tracing back to West African, Native American, and European influences. Historically, this staple food was a mixture of fresh, local shrimp and corn-based grits, often cooked in bacon grease.
